Making Homemade Soap – Should you use Distilled or Tap Water?
The experts of the soap making industry always use high quality distilled water for making soap. But do you know why that is?
If not distilled water can you use tap water? Well, the basic idea behind using the distilled water is because this is the type of water that is soft in nature and does not have any impurities. Most of the time, the tap water has a lot more impurities, making it hard water that cannot help you to make high quality soap. When you are using water from the tap for making homemade soap, it will result in becoming scum.
Whenever you plan to make homemade soap, it is always better to go for distilled water as the nature of the water is soft & impurity free.
There are many recipes for homemade soap that will recommend you to use the distilled water. Most people have noticed that distilled water is much more consistent and will provide you excellent and steady results. During the soap-making process, if you are not using distilled water, you will not have the perfect batch of soap.
Most of the homemade soaps that are made from distilled water are also marked as pure. These are the kind of soap that is considered better in terms of producing lather.
What happens if you are not using distilled water to make your homemade soap?
Another essential aspect to consider is what will happen to the soap if you do not use the distilled water. Well, if you are using hard limescale dense water, your soap will be completely ruined. You must make sure that the area you are living in has water that is not hard. Even if it is moderately hard, it might not provide you the best results for the soap-making process.
Furthermore, water that contains a higher concentration of magnesium and Calcium material will perform poor in terms of providing you lather, and there will be no bubbles at all. Moreover, the soap that is not made from distilled water is more likely to oxidize quickly.
There is a clear difference between the soap made from distilled water and the one made from any other type. If the distilled water is easily available, it is a better choice because it will result in a better soap quality.
How to experiment to see if distilled water is better than tap water?
Soap making is a simple process. But to experiment whether distilled water is good enough, you can carry out the below experiment:
· Start with filling a container halfway with distilled water. Do the same for tap water on a separate container.
· The next step is to add liquid detergent in both the containers. However, do not add a huge quantity of liquid soap. It can be a dime-sized quantity.
· Now mix both the containers well and review the samples after 5 minutes.
You will notice that the container with distilled water has voluminous bubbles and lather, whereas tap water has no lather or bubbles. This is a clear sign to show how effective distilled water will be for the soap-making process.
