A Water Distiller helps in purifying the tap water which then becomes completely free of contaminants like inorganic, biological, and organic chemicals. Through a water distiller, the water turns into steam and helps in removing arsenic, lead, fluoride, viruses, and other contaminants. This happens through a process known as distillation which has been the most effective procedure of purifying water. Here, a number of processes occur at the same time, like filtration, distillation, chlorination, and boiling of the water.

Distilled Water:

With the help of distillation, tap water is filtered and all the impurities are removed. It is different from the normal water people drink as it is naturally treated. After filtration, the distilled water can serve multiple purposes, such as drinking, filling humidifiers, watering plants, fish tanks, steam irons, washing clothes, etc.

The taste of distilled water is slightly sweet and different from the normal water since it has no minerals. Despite the sweet taste, the majority of the people tend to use it because it’s natural and safe to drink and utilize for multiple purposes.

How Does the Water Become Pure Through the Process of Distillation?

Chemically speaking, a simple distillation process takes place when two liquids having different boiling points get separated. This water purifying process can be summarised into three simple steps listed down below:

1- The tap water is boiled in the water distiller and then turned into steam.

2- This steam goes through condensation and cooled down, becoming liquid again.

3- Any substance present in the water that cannot be turned into steam is left behind, like microorganisms and minerals.

To dig deeper, first, the water is poured down the boiling chamber. This chamber is implanted with some heating element which increases the water temperature to its boiling point. As soon as the water starts boiling, steam is released. The steam then rises up and travels all the way through the vent. This vent is present at the top of the boiling chamber from where the steam reaches the condenser.

During this whole process, all of the bacteria, fluoride, and other minerals are left behind. With the help of the condenser which is made up of stainless steel coil, water vapor becomes liquid again.

There is a high-powered fan placed right at the top of the water distiller that cools down the water vapor. Afterward, these water droplets pass down the condenser tube and travel through a carbon postfilter.

An Activated Carbon Filter is then used to take care of some rigid contaminants, like VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) that can take gaseous form. These contaminants often make way through the condenser into the distilled water. Through absorption, activated carbon helps in eliminating any remaining contaminants that might be present in the water droplets. These water droplets then leave the water distiller and assemble together in a stainless steel tank or glass bottle.

A water distiller may take approximately 4-6 hours to produce a gallon full of distilled water. Just like any other water filtration system, the water distillation process takes time as well. The PurOstill Water Distiller has an efficient internal system allowing it to produce 4 litres of distilled water in just under 4 hours.

What Are the Benefits of Having a Water Distiller?

1 – The Purification Process is a Natural One:

Since the distillation process is similar to the hydrological cycle, everything happens in a natural manner. The tap water is purified naturally without any induction of harmful or industrial chemicals. This is why the whole process is totally safe and reliable for consumers. Moreover, the body’s chemical balance will not be affected.

2 – Distilled Water Has Multiple Uses at Home:

Distilled water has a wide variety of uses in day to day life. Other than for cooking and drinking purpose, distilled water is also used in other household chores. From being used as humidifiers to fill up steam irons, distilled water has many uses. Even baby formula is prepared through distilled water, eliminating the possibility of doing harm to the infant’s immune system. Cats, dogs, and other animals are given distilled water too. Just like pets, house plants can flourish with the help of distilled water.

Not just domestically, but distilled water has commercial uses as well, like in model steam engine boilers, automobile cooling systems, airplane jets, washing engines, etc. Normally, distilled water serves a greater purpose at home and used by almost everyone who is health-conscious.

3 – Use of Distilled Water for Health Care Needs:

Distilled water is absolutely the best option to cater to health care needs. This water works like magic on wounds, cleaning and sterilizing them within minutes. Medical equipment is cleansed with it as well. In laboratories, distilled water is a must-have, as it safeguards equipment from contaminated substances. Hospitals acquire water distillers for health-related concerns, and also to keep floors and other areas clean.

4 – Easy Installation Process:

The installation process of a water distiller is quite simple, unlike other filtration systems such as reverse osmosis and deionization. All there’s to do is to set up the countertop and plug the device into an electrical outlet. When it’s plugged in, fill up the boiling chamber with tap water and let the device do its job. With an automatic distiller, the water source should be connected to it so there’s an uninterrupted supply of purified water. In comparison to other installation processes, this one is by far the easiest one.

5 – Long-term Solution to Everyday Problems:

A water distiller is an investment, but there are higher returns in the future. It is a one-time investment which has its perks in the long-term. For instance, producing distilled water at home which is cheaper than visiting a supermarket and buying bottled water.

Also, purchasing bottled water is environmentally unhealthy and shouldn’t be substituted with distilling water at home. With proper maintenance, a water distiller can easily last for about 10-15 years, making it extremely inexpensive.
